Our whole life revolves around time. We waste so much of it feeling like we don’t have enough, we’re not using it well, we’re late, or behind schedule. The list goes on and on and as hard as we try, we can’t master the clock. It controls us. This need to win the war against time leads us to a skewed perspective. A perspective focused on ourselves and our perceived needs.
The more I focus on my schedule the more my life becomes all about me. I dare say that it’s impossible to live an intentional life focused on what the Lord has for us and still be selfish with our time.
When I finally let go and realize that my time on this earth isn’t mine, that it’s not about me, I begin to recognize the deep needs of other people. My eyes are open and I can finally see God’s true purpose for me. I miss those opportunities full of blessings when I’m too concerned about catching my favorite TV show, being late to a meeting or just needing “me” time.
So now I’m on a journey to figure out how to give my time freely within the bounds of my responsibilities. What message are we communicating to others? Are we telling our family, friends and community that they’re important or are we telling them that our personal time is too precious to sacrifice?
Don’t waste your time thinking you’re too busy. Live like Jesus did, like he calls you to live.
“So watch your step. Use your head. Make the most of every chance you get. These are desperate times! Don’t live carelessly, unthinkingly. Make sure you understand what the Master wants.” Ephesians 5:15-17 MSG
There are people you touch every day that need to be loved. They have deep needs that we don’t know about until we ask, until we take time to find out.
Don’t miss your opportunity to love on someone by giving up your time. I’m confident that when you do you will discover unimaginable blessings and joy.
What is God calling you to do today? How do you need to give up your time?
